The monastery of Saint Petka, in the village Izvor, near Paracin, is the only monastery in Serbia that has a home for the care of children and women with mental and physical disabilities. The home, which currently houses 88 women and children with mental and physical disabilities, is at higher risk of infection during the COVID-19 pandemic. To preserve and improve the hygienic and sanitary conditions in the home, Help, with the assistance of the German Embassy in Serbia, procured equipment for the kitchen, laundry and cleaning in the amount of EUR 24,344.45 EUR.
Refrigerators and cooling cabinets, a vegetable cutting machine and a convection oven were purchased for the kitchen. This has increased the hygienic conditions of storage and disposal as well as food preparation. Kitchen machines also enable a faster and more precise process of preparing better and more varied meals for the wards of the home.
Professional laundry and cleaning equipment, like steam vacuum cleaners and ironing, and disinfection systems help speed up the process and increase the amount of cleaned and disinfected clothes and bedding. Professional dehumidifier collects excess moisture in rooms that are at risk of condensation and mould.
New equipment for the kitchen, laundry and cleaning in the home within the monastery, allows nuns and employees to preserve and improve hygienic and sanitary conditions in terms of the COVID-19 pandemic, and prevent a potential outbreak of a disease.
