European union assisting revitalization of micro businesses in Obrenovac and Svilajnac

Within the second phase of the EU assistance for flood relief in Serbia, Help delivered grant contracts for revitalization of micro and small businesses in Obrenovac and Svilajnac in August 2016.

First in Obrenovac were signed and handed in the 126 grant contracts on donation of equipment, namely 62 grants in average value 3000 EUR micro businesses up to three employees, 22 grant contracts worth 3000 EUR each for the agriculture holdings, and 31 grants in average value 5000 EUR for the businesses with three and more employees.

Afterwards, 37 grant contracts were handed in to the representatives of micro and small businesses in Svilajnac. Total value of those in-kind grants to be delivered in Svilajnac by Help with the EU funding amounts to 155.000,00 EUR. The event was attended by Help Country Director Ms. Aleksandra Brkic and Svilajnac Municipality President Mr. Predrag Milanovic.

Micro and small businesses assistance in equipment within the EU assistance programme are being delivered based on the number of the registered employees at the moment of 2014 flood. Thus the 3000 EUR grants were awarded to the businesses with up to 3 employees and grants in the amount of 5000 EUR for the businesses with more than 3 employees.

Components of reconstruction and construction of private homes and assistance to the economy and agriculture recovery within the second phase of the EU Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia is implemented by the partner organisations ASB, DRC and Help.

EU Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia Programme worth 78 million EUR, is financed by the European Union under the IPA pre-accession funds. The money is allocated for construction of new homes, reconstruction of public buildings, private homes, roads as well as economy and agriculture recovery in 43 municipalities most affected by floods: Aleksinac, Arandjelovac, Bajina Basta, Boljevac, Gornji Milanovac, Ivanjica, Jagodina, Kladovo, Knic, Knjazevac, Koceljeva, Kosjeric, Kovacica, Kraljevo, Krupanj, Lazarevac, Loznica, Majdanpek, Mali Zvornik, Medvedja, Negotin, Novi Beograd, Obrenovac, Osecina, Paracin, Pozega, Sjenica, Smederevska Palanka, Surdulica, Svilajnac, Svrljig, Sabac, Sid, Ub, Uzice, Valjevo, Vladicin Han i Zajecar.

All activities on the ground are carried out by the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS), UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), organizations ASB, DRC, Help, Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and World Bank (WB) – in coordination with Government’s Office for Assistance and Reconstruction of Flooded Areas.
