EU Social housing and active inclusion in Vladicin Han

Within the EU SHAI Programme Help and Municipality Vladicin Han will support housing, education, employment, self-employment and social services access to ensure the sustainability of assistance programmes for families living in inadequate conditions and at risk of poverty.

In cooperation with the Municipality of Vladicin Han, Help will participate in the implementation of the “European Union support to social housing and active inclusion” (EU SHAI) programme implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in partnership with the Ministry of construction, transport and infrastructure, Ministry of labour, employment, veterans and social affairs and Ministry of European Integration.

The purpose of this EU programme is to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable women, men, girls and boys and their active inclusion throughout Serbia.

Thanks to the EU donation, 19 cities and municipalities will be provided housing for 421 families with about 1,500 members across Serbia, young in/leaving care, women victims of domestic violence, members of Roma national minority, and people with disabilities.

In addition to housing solutions, assistance in education, employment, self-employment and access to social services has been envisaged, which will ensure the sustainability of assistance programmes for families living in inadequate conditions and at risk of poverty.

Help’s project manager Bane Stanojkovic emphasizes that thanks to the long-term successful cooperation with the Municipality of Vladicin Han, has been realistic to expect to achieve the planned goals and contribute to the improvement of the housing conditions and active inclusion.

Based on the long-term experience and proven methodology, Help will implement the selection process and provide individual support through active inclusion of the vulnerable population at risk of poverty like Roma, women, young in care, people with disabilities and others living in inadequate conditions. Within the following 16 months, with this project in Vladicin Han, 32 families will be supported  - 30 in reconstruction and two in the provision of rural households. We expect that this synergy contributes to increased social inclusion of at least 128 women, men, girls and boys who live in poverty, excluded from society and enable them to live a dignified life and actively participate in society. “ said Stanojkovic.

With the planned activities, 32 families in Vladicin Han will get a decent living environment and solve housing problems. In addition, they will be supported in other life issues such as employment and education which will help them, in the long run, to change their position in the local community and improve overall living conditions. At least 64 women, men, girls and boys from the supported families will be encouraged by active inclusion measures that contain employment, self-employment, paid internship, and business and vocational training.

The 27 million EUR “European Union support to social housing and active inclusion programme” (EU SHAI) programme is implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in partnership with the Ministry of construction, transport and infrastructure, the Ministry of labour, employment, veterans and social affairs, and in cooperation with the Ministry of European integration.
