Supporting access to rights, employment and livelihood enhancement of refugees and IDPs in Serbia

The project is realized in cooperation with the Commissariat for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia, UNHCR and targeted cities – Smederevo and Kraljevo.

The overall objective

Support to the implementation of National Strategy for Resolving the Problems of Refugees and IDPs in facilitating the closure of remaining collective centers in Serbia.

The specific objective

Psychosocial support to the families accommodated in targeted CCs, and close cooperation with CRS and local trustee in order to achieve best possible performance and effectiveness of the assistance;

Supply and installation of prefabricated houses and provision of secure, affordable and appropriate housing to the most vulnerable Refugees and IDPs, as well as certain percentage of poor or socially dependant domicile population.

Activities

Psychosocial support to residents of targeted collective centres
In coordination with relevant local and programme stakeholders Help is organizing a specifically tailored psychosocial support to the residents of the targeted collective centers within the project duration. This action is organized in close cooperation with CRS, UNHCR, local trusties and Centre for Social Welfare in order to share available information on the targeted population and try to find a proper solution for each displaced person from the targeted group.

The main goals of the psychosocial support are:

  • to raise the interest among the displaced towards the solutions offered by the programme;
  • to motivate the displaced to plan their future by providing them information about return and integration options i.e. durable solutions in the host community;
  • to conduct needs assessment;
  • to help the displaced to find the most feasible solution that would fit their needs and available options.

Supply and installation of prefabricated houses

The project foresees the supply and installation of 49 prefabricated houses to accommodate refugee and IDP families, including 20% of local socially vulnerable population, with average surface of the houses of approximately 45sqm, thus giving opportunity for accommodation of families of different structures.

Current activities

In accordance to the project activities and timeframe, as well as cooperation established with the relevant local partners and stakeholders, the process of selection of beneficiaries amongst the targeted group is in progress by the commission consisting of representatives of Commissariat for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia, UNHCR, targeted Cities and HELP.

Out of total 49 prefabricated houses meant for the refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and extremely vulnerable local population (twenty percent of the total number), thirty five will be supplied and installed in Smederevo, for the residents of the Collective Center Radinac, and 14 prefab houses in Kraljevo Municipality, for those in the Collective Center Mataruska banja.
